Rotary lobe pumps

How do rotary lobe pumps work?

Rotary lobe pumps belong to the category of self-priming, valveless positive displacement pumps. Inside these pumps are two rotors that interlock and rotate in opposite directions. This counter-rotation creates a vacuum that draws the liquid into the delivery chamber of the rotary lobe pump. The liquid is then conveyed to the outlet with low pulsation.

What are the advantages of rotary lobe pumps?

  • Conveying of viscous liquids loaded with solids
  • Low-pulsation pumping characteristics in continuous operation
  • Various rotor designs are available, depending on the medium to be pumped
  • The direction of rotation of the rotors can be reversibly controlled
  • High safety against blockages in the conveying chamber
  • Suitable for standardised cleaning procedures such as CIP and SIP
  • Long service life and low service effort

In which applications are rotary lobe pumps used?

Anwendungsfotos-Molke

Rotary lobe pumps for hygienic media

Rotary lobe pumps are ideal for the food and beverage industry. The hygienic design of the conveying technologies enables the safe conveying of yoghurt, cream, curd and whey. Standardised cleaning procedures such as CIP and SIP guarantee germ-free conveying technology.

Anwendungsfotos-Kosmetik

Ideal for cosmetic and pharmaceutical products

Rotary lobe pumps are also suitable for shear-sensitive cosmetic products and hygienic pharmaceuticals. The reliable CIP and SIP cleaning processes guarantee a germ-free product chamber and ensure consistently high product quality.

Anwendungsfotos-Lebensmittel

Conveying of shear-sensitive media

The special design of the rotary lobe pump enables reliable pumping of shear-sensitive solids. Fruits as a component of yoghurt or yeast cultures for the production of beer can be gently conveyed and dosed by the pumps.

FAQ`s

Frequently asked questions

Rotary lobe pumps can be individually designed depending on the application. Depending on the nature of the medium and the desired flow rate, two or three-bladed rotor designs made of different materials are available.

Ateliers Ehrismann offers various options for mobile alignment. For example, the pumping technology can be installed on a stainless steel hand trolley.

The rotary lobe pumps offer the possibility of reversibly controlling the direction of rotation of the rotors and reversing the flow rate. This feature offers more flexibility in manufacturing processes.
